PAT: Portable Appliance Testing
The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require any electrical system
to be constructed, maintained and used in such a manner as to prevent
danger. This means that inspection and testing of systems, including
probable appliances, is needed in order to determine if maintenance is
required.
In addition to professional electricians who administer PAT as part of
their job, many workers without electrical training, such as
maintenance staff, caretakers and charity shop volunteers need to be
able to carry out electrical safety testing.
This book explains in plain English what needs to be done. It also
includes an appendix providing electrical fundamentals, making it an
ideal and affordable reference for electricians as well as
non-specialists following the City & Guilds 2377 course.
